Admissions Requirements

Formal admission to the office of graduate studies at the University of New Mexico is an initial requirement for admission the Master of Science Degree Program in Dental Hygiene. Applications for graduate admission are available from the Division of Dental Hygiene, University of New Mexico. The Division of Dental Hygiene will recommend acceptance into the program; however, final determination of admittance will be offered by the UNM Office of Graduate Studies. The following documents must be submitted to the Division of Dental Hygiene for admittance to the program:

  1. Application to Office of Graduate Studies.
  2. Photocopy of National Dental Hygiene Board Examination results.
  3. Proof of a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or a related field and in the latter case, have completed an accredited certificate or associate degree program in dental hygiene. Proof should be provided by official college transcripts.
  4. Evidence of an undergraduate overall quality point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  5. Three letters of recommendations
  6. Interview with Admissions Committee
  7. Completion of a certificate or associate degree program in dental hygiene which has been accredited by CODA
  8. A copy of current American dental hygiene license

Deadline: Both applications are due no later than January 31 for priority admission status or April 15 for general admission. Admission is for the fall semester. Those applicants who are provisionally selected will be notified in May. All applicants will be notified of their admission status. Selection will be given to qualified persons regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, qualified disability or military involvement. A $100 application fee made out to the Division of Dental Hygiene is required with the completed application. Only a check or money order is accepted.
