Q. Is the program open to international students?
No. International students are not eligible to apply to the AEGD programs unless they have a degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school.
Q. Is the program accredited?
Yes the program is accredited without reporting requirements
Q. Is there a salary for the AEGD Residency Program.
Yes. AEGD residents are paid at the scale as first year medical residents. Medical, vision, disability, life, and professional liability insurance benefits are also provided as well as annual leave, professional leave, educational leave, sick leave, catastrophic leave, and maternity leave.
Q. What are the admission dates and application deadlines for the programs?
The application deadline for the AEGD program is November 15 of the year preceding the start of the program. Late applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Q. When are candidates for residencies selected?
Applications are reviewed and interviews are conducted. Once a candidate is approved, the Program Director will formally notify the candidate of acceptance. Because this program does not participate in the MATCH, candidates can be offered a position on a rolling basis.
Q. How do I apply for the program?
The AEGD program participates in PASS (Postdoctoral Application Support Service) and applications are submitted through this service. For more information about PASS go to: www.ADEA.org/pass. PASS begins processing applications June 1 of each application cycle.
Q. How many resident positions are available?
Ten.

Q. What are the academic requirements for acceptance into the residency programs?
Applicants must have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school.
Q. Is a New Mexico dental license required to be in the program?
No. The New Mexico Dental Board issues a training license to dentists to participate in the residency program. For activity outside the training program (i.e., moonlighting) you must have a New Mexico dental license. New Mexico accepts the WREB and CRDTS regional examinations.
Q. Are GRE or TOEFL scores required for admission?
GRE and TOEFL scores are not required, but applicants are welcome to submit these scores if they feel that it enhances their application.
Q. Do I need to be able to speak Spanish?
No. Many of the staff are bilingual and the program offers a seminar in clinical Spanish.
Q. Is an interview required?
Yes.
Q. Can anyone set an appointment to be seen?
Yes.
Q. What type of insurance do you accept?
We accept most private insurance coverage, Medicaid, and private/self-paying patients
Q. Do you have reduced fee or sliding fee scale schedules?
Our fees are in range with most private dental practices in the area. We do not offer sliding fee schedules.
Q. Why did I receive a bill when I was seen in the hospital?
We are not associated with UNM Care card and are not a UNMH clinic. We are a fee for service clinic.
